They are worked in a fine-quality wool yarn with 9 stitches to the inch. The background is a deep chocolate brown. 07406, pictured at the top, is the larger of the two, with the worked area measuring 25"W x 23.25"H. The canvas is slightly larger. 02826:This is an unused piece of medium-weight early 20th century toile designed
by Jean-Baptiste Huet in 1806 for the famous Jouy factory. The large-scale pattern is titled
Le meunier, son fils et l'âne (The miller, his son and
the ass) and is beautifully engraved and printed with very fine
detail and a well-balanced design. The engraved printing rollers
were used for many years, so most toile
patterns were printed again and again from the original rollers. New rollers were made if the pattern retained its popularity. Micro
views can be seen <HERE> and
<HERE.> 32"W
x 92"L. Ca. 1900 $325.00 USD |
